Testing & Assessment Process
4 Easy Steps to Getting Approved for State Examination
Step1: TExES Review Sessions
(to be completed before the end of Field Residency I. Completion of review
sessions is included in the scoring rubric for Field Residency I and counts
toward course credit.)
- 6 hrs of Review Required
- Recommendation:Take 3 hrs of review for PPR and 3 hrs of your specific
content area- 2 ways to receive hours
- T-CERT Website (only for Math 4-8, 8-12; Science 4-8, 8-12;
and PPR EC-12)- Must have a TEA # to login

- Can receive up to 6 hrs of review (include chat session
for full amount of hrs)- Student must print out certificate at the end of
review and bring to TPCC for validation and record
keeping.

- In-Person Review Sessions (professor-instructed)
- Student will receive 3 hrs per professor session
- T-CERT Website (only for Math 4-8, 8-12; Science 4-8, 8-12;

Step 2: TExES Paper-Based Practice Tests
(to be completed before the end of Field Residency II. Scores on practice tests
will be utilized on the scoring rubric for Field Residency II and counts toward course credits).
- 2 Practice tests: 1in PPR and 1 in your specific content area (unless you are
required to take more than 2 state exams) - Student can only take 1 practice test per session
- Student must sign up with TPCC either in person, by phone or through email to
attend a practice test session- Provide K#, name, test needed (specifically), email, and phone #
- Must pass each test with an 80 or above
- NOTE: Student will have to re-take practice test if not passed
- Student cannot proceed to Step 3 until both tests are passed
- NOTE: Student will have to re-take practice test if not passed
Step 3: Study Commitment Form
- 2 forms must be completed entirely: 1 for PPR and 1 for your specific
content area- NOTE: TPCC will not accept an incomplete form
Step 4: Approval for State Exams
(to be completed before the end of Student Teaching, however; it is highly
recommended that state exams are taken and passed prior to the Student
Teaching semester.) A student's status regarding state exams is included in
the scoring rubric for Student Teaching and is a component of the final grade.
- Once a Study Commitment Form has been submitted a 2-3 day
turnaround for approval of state exam will be made - TPCC will send an email to the student indicating state exam
approval including the appropriate steps to register online for state exam - And BEST OF LUCK!

Most CAT tests are offered on a continuous basis (weekly). For
these tests, you can determine specific test-date availability
once you have logged in to register for a state exam.

Attention Declared Pre-Service Teachers
There is a new way to sign up for review/practice sessions. Please follow the steps and
self enroll into the free Blackboard course. Inside you will find a list of dates for all semester
long. It's a matter of simply signing up for them. If you sign up for something accidentally or
you cannot attend please call or email Julie Knickrehm, Testing & Assessment Officer so she
may take you off the roster. You cannot do this on your own.
